It is estimated that almost $800 billion will be spent on travel and tourism in 2011 and nearly two billion business and leisure trips will be made in the United States alone. How will these travelers discover where to stay, eat, shop and play? How will they learn about the businesses in your town? When I travel or visit a new place I look for fun and informative maps to help me plan my trip before I go. I want to learn a little about the area, find places to stay, and know what to expect when I get there. Once I arrive at my destination I need an easy way to find nearby attractions, restaurants and other businesses. Getting a sense of the neighborhood and some background information makes my visit more enjoyable. An interactive map can display photos, videos and descriptions of hotels, points of interest, historic sites, shopping areas or museums, and you can click right from the map to advertiser web sites to book accommodations or get more details. Does your community have an interactive map to promote tourism?
They are part of the National Express Group and offer services from Barcelona to Zaragoza (3 hours 30 minutes), Madrid (7hours 30 minutes), down the coast to Valencia (4 hours 15 minutes) and Alicante (7-8 hours). The local buses run to almost anywhere in the city. There are route maps and area maps on the bus shelters showing the routes taken by the buses stopping there. You can also get a full map of all buses routes in the Catalunya or Diagonal metro stations. The day bus services run from 05:00 to 22:00 and the night buses run from 22:00-05:00. The night buses depart from Plaça Catalunya and are easily identified by the "N" (for Nit-bus) on the bus. Below is a table showing the 2009 charges for the various bus season tickets you can purchase when using the Barcelona buses.
Maps of places give details as to the geographic location, physical characteristics, climate profile, vegetative structure, flora and fauna, soil structure, latitude and longitude, etc. Over the years, these maps were used in schools and colleges, offices and in houses for the purpose of education and/or reference. These maps used to be in paper-printed two-dimensional formats. Now three-dimensional, interactive or dynamic maps represent more accurate and up-to-date information. The art and science of map-making is called cartography. Maps are created representing political, geographical and other particular aspects. Most of the maps are drawn on a scale, say 1: 10,000, meaning that one unit of measurement on the map represents 10,000 units on the land. Maps depicting land areas are called political maps or physical maps. Political maps show land boundaries or territorial boarders between states and provinces, say those between India and China or Maharashtra and Gujarat. Physical maps depict geographical features such as terrain structure, mountains, deserts, plateaus, rivers, land under use, etc.
Maps are so ubiquitous that we forget that we use maps on daily basis. The signage, the road mile stones, the directions that ask are basically maps in the making. Yes we make maps in our minds. Once you put these on paper or on electronic media, these become hard copy or soft copy maps. Maps basically fall in two categories, the raster and the vector maps. Raster maps are images of paper maps, it can be said to be similar to photographs. Can you edit them, yes but very difficult to control each aspect of raster maps layout and designs. Then how do we edit the maps and control all design and layout aspect? The answer is vector maps, these are intelligent maps which are basically made of three entities, points, lines and shapes. The points are symbols of hospitals, schools etc. The lines represent all entities which are denoted by paths like roads, railways, streams, contours etc. The area or shape comes in for parks, large water bodies, and even your home or office building if is a small scale map. Yes small scale map; smaller the scale larger is the detail on the map.

Very popular antique maps are fetching very high prices at the auction block, because of this many forgeries have appeared as well as numerous copies of these maps. Map reproductions are not worth anything regardless of what the seller tells you. We will give you a few tips to distinguish a fake antique map from a real antique map. First let us talk about copies, forgeries and reproductions of antique maps. Cartographers have copied each others maps for centuries and have improved on them as well. These old maps can be valuable since they were done when the information on them was valid and useful. They are genuine historical documents. However, recent copies of old maps that depict geographical information from centuries past are made with the intent of offering decoration and sometimes historical insight to their buyers. The value of these map reproductions is often marketed to unknowing customers by claiming that the copy is of a rare map or that is was made using some fancy printing technique. The truth is that a copy of a rare map is not rare, it is the original map that is rare. The copy is worthless and the same goes for the fancy printing.
