In the course of researching an old building, your home or an ancestors house, maps can provide some additional and interesting information about the building and its neighborhood. They show details in ways not examined by other sources, and can often provide leads for further exploration. Atlases and Maps Atlases and maps provide a visual history of an area. While a map is usually just one sheet of paper, an atlas is generally a bound collection of maps, charts, plates or tables. Historical city and county maps and atlases may show your home on them, and perhaps even list the owners name as well. These maps often show the location of roads and other landmarks that may no longer exist. You might find these at city hall, county courthouses or local libraries or archives.
The association map, in its simplest form, is just two keywords with a defined link. In terms of looks the diagrams are similar to a non-linear mind map, but structurally they have the more formal requirements of the concept map. The key point from a learning view, is that the relationship between the two keywords must always be clearly defined. A keyword may have many links to other keywords, but each pairing must have this well-defined link association. I have found the decisions one must make about these relationships have been some of the most useful in helping a student to overcome a misunderstanding, and in designing learning packages so that learners move more easily through a topic. Linking the unknown to the known has been a useful teaching strategy since time immemorial, and the association map is a particularly powerful way of tapping into this for some students.
Maps need to be kept in pristine condition so they will last for many years, and also improves the shading and contrast of a map. To add to this, a laminated map is very much needed if it will be in contact by many people, such as offices, especially delivery services where maps are vital for day-to-day business. Pin-pointing routes and notes are important especially for traveling to many locations around the country. If you are using a map specifically for navigation purposes rather than for decor, a laminated map will allow you to chart you route with a non-permanent pen, and you can simply wipe the map clean afterwards. There is no doubt that by laminating a map you ensure the survival of the map, and keep it looking brand new and importantly clean. Nobody likes the hassle of replacing a map whenever it gets torn or looks old, therefore the best and more cost efficient way of strengthening a map and keep it long lasting is by lamination.
Interactive map making software usually supports custom definable regions, areas and location points. Users can select pre-designed flash map templates, and easily change color settings of countries or counties, and pinpoint locations on the map by using pushpin buttons or icons. A hover over tooltip box can be displayed with your own text, images, with links to another web page, PDF documents, or sites on the World Wide Web. As the main purpose of these maps are for navigation or data representation purpose, geographical details such as highways, buildings, rivers are not always necessary, which makes the map cleaner and easier to navigate by visitors. With few click-through on the national, state or county map, visitors can quickly find information or be redirected to specific page about a particular location on the map image.
Mapmakers and GPS manufacturers all have their own system of creating maps, but most maps begin with the placement of governmental sites, like fire and police stations, schools, and similar community landmarks. Aerial images and satellite photos are then layered into the basic map, along with any important additions that may be needed, to display the GPS map seen on the device. Some GPS mapping devices can produce immediate graphics of your location and surroundings, making it possible to view a real-time map that changes as your location changes. This type of GPS map is great in emergency situations. The features of GPS maps vary. Most software includes maps of cities, along with the major highways. These maps may also include city level streets, rivers and waterways, and even less traveled side roads. Many GPS mapping systems include features that make it possible to obtain maps from your computer, making it easy and convenient to travel to any area.
Maps are needed and are so heavily relied upon when traveling to new places and there is nothing worse than attempting to use a map that is torn, or has water marks. Unfortunately a map that has not been protected by lamination and has been in contact with water becomes almost unreadable. Not having to worry about the surface is important and it should also be noted that by laminating a map it will give off a more professional finish, looking clean, fresh, and durable and accident proof. If a map is in a family home with children, you do not have to worry about any spillages, dirt, grime or fingerprints ruining the map, since if a surface is laminated you can easily wash and wipe off any dirt, without ruining the map. Everyone wants the added luxury of positioning of the map, since you do not have to worry about people coming in contact with it.
